Electricity bill: Eko distribution company goes cashless

Electricity bill-Nigeria - As part of the efforts to provide seamless electronic-payment services for customers to pay their electricity bills from the comfort of their homes and offices, without going to the bank or any office of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has launched the PHCN utility card in partnership with eTranzact International Plc.

Speaking at the launch of the service in Lagos recently, Chief Executive Officer of Eko Distribution Zone, Mr. Oladele Amoda, stated that the purpose of the scheme was to make life easier for customers.


"Since the cashless policy was introduced, we have been developing better ways to ensure smooth payment and cost-effective means of paying electricity bills and as such launched the PHCN Utility Prepaid Card powered by eTranzact," he said.

Commenting on the numerous benefits of the card, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of eTranzact, Mr. Valentine Obi, said the purpose was multi-dimensional.

"The PHCN Utility prepaid card is multi-purpose and multi-dimensional. Customers can now pay their electricity bills seamlessly with or without a bank account, on the Web, ATM, POS and on their mobile phones through PocketMoni and mobile banking services.

Obi said customers could get further benefits by using their prepaid card to perform other transaction services.

He identified such services to include airtime purchase, funds transfer to any bank account, purchase of airline tickets, payment for other utility bills and receiving of discount benefits from partner merchants.

He disclosed that the PCHN Utility card was available at all PHCN offices and partner banks.
